The fortress armaments
The single and collective armaments of the inhabitants of the fortress consisted of cross-bows and alabards, and for what it concerns the fire-arms of bombards and arquebus.
The bombards were of the kind of fixed shot. They were placed in rooms with which the towers are provided and they shoot stone bullets. During the most recent restorations of the fortress two exemplaries were found. The gratest bullet weighted three Kilos with a 14 cm.diametre, while a smaller one weighted one kilo with a 10 cm. diametre.
This tells us that the fortress was armed with at
least two kinds of small-calibre bombards, suitable to free the
walls or any other fortified element taken by assault.
For the long-distance shot the men of the fortress (about 12) employed the muskets, big arquebus placed in the merlons loopholes or over the embrasures.
