Biennial International Festival of Humour in Art

Created in 1961 by Dr. Luigi Mari and, at present, organized by the Town Council of Tolentino with the artistic management of Melanton (Antonio Mele), the Biennial International Festival of Humour in Art is considered one of the most prestigious cultural meetings with contemporary humoristic art. The 20th edition shows the presence-record of 584 artists coming from 52 Nations of the five continents, then it offers a remarkable outline of the different artistic expressions of Humour, Satire and Caricature all over the world. Selected by an international jury, at the head of wich was Guillermo Mordillo, the Winners of the 20th Biennial Festival are: the rumanian Julian Pena-Pai (Prize Marcorelli about humour in Art), the italian Marco Martellini (Prize Mari about Caricature-portrait), the slavic Vlado Volas (Prize Cittą di Tolentino on the theme "La vie en rose: an expression of hope and optimism for the new Millennium"), the spanish agency Casadevall Pedreno & PRG (Prize TP - Advertising Italian Association about Humour in Advertising).
The Honor Prizes "Accademy of Humour" - designed to well-known Personalities in the field of humorous culture - have been conferred to Jean-Michele Folon and Michele Serra.
Together with the best works in competition (selected by more than 2000 works) then artistic programme of the 20th Biennial Festival includes three important exhibitions: a Personal Exhibition by the Polish artis Marek Tofil, an Anthological Exhibition to pay homage to the painter and caricaturiste Cesare Marcorelli, and, besides, a spectacular author's review "20th Century Humour" wich ironically tells and shows, through 300 caricatures and satirical-humorous drawings, the Personages, the History, the Myths, the Customs of this 20th Century.

Museum of Caricature
The International Museum of Caricature and Humour in Art in Tolentino, the only one in Italy, is considered an important meeting point for artists and people fond of humorous culture.
Founded in 1970 by Dr. Luigi Mari, the feather of the Biennial Festival, and today managed by Melanton, the Museum of Caricature is placed in the monumental Palazzo Sangallo, in the heart of Tolentino. It houses a very precious artistic and historic patrimony, which constantly increases thanks to acquisitions and donations; at present, there are more than 3000 original works by the greatest International Masters of Caricature and Humour of these last two centuries as well as books, catalogues, prints and periods documents.
Daumier, Gulbransson, Galantara, Scarpelli, Dudovich, Maccari, Attalo, Onorato, Topor, Longanesi, Searle, Levine, Garretto, Jacovitti, Altan, Mordillo, Folon, Fellini are only a few of the greatest Men of Humoristic Art wich you might enjoy at the Internationl Museum of Caricature and Humour in Art, one of the most exciting and amusing cultural scenes.
